THE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
When was this project started?
My initial thought was that she was crazy, but then I wondered whether the goodwill of the public could be used for better or more benevolent purposes.
And that, dear reader, was when the seed was planted.
What have you done so far?
I have set up this website and contacted McDonalds in the USA and in south Africa, via their websites, to inform them of this project.
I have obtained a free hosting service for the site. Thank you, Netfirms!
I have set up an email address for anyone who wishes to contact me.
I am currently searching for an alternative to PayPal, that will allow donations into a South African account. If you know of one, please contact me.
I have also discussed this idea with various people who are willing to assist with the purchasing and distribution of the Big Macs.
Why was this project started?
Simply to bring smiles to faces.
Who are you?
My name is Lynette, I live in Cape Town, South Africa.
I am currently 42 years old.
I have a fulltime position at a marketing company
I am sure that you will forgive me for not wanting to divulge too much personal information on the Internet. However, if you want to contact me via email, with specific questions, please feel free to do so.
What are YOU getting out of this?
The satisfaction of helping hungry kids just a little bit. Perhaps the joy is rather in seeing the little ones happy for a few moments in time.
Oh, you mean financially? Nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch.
How will I know that my money was received?
When your money is received, your name or any code name you decide to use, will be put on the Thank you page.
How will I know that my money is REALLY being used to buy Macs for kids?
On the Weekly update page, you will see how much money has been received.
You will also see scans of the receipts received from McDonalds, when the Big Macs are purchased.
I will be including photographs taken at the time of handing out of the Big Macs to the kids.
If you can think of any other way that I can prove to you that your money is not being spent on purchasing a Porche, please let me know.
Which kids will be benefitting from this project?
Charity starts at home. I have no kids of my own, so I will be starting in underpriviledged areas around Cape Town.
The Weekly update page will indicate in which areas kids have received Big Macs.
How will the Macs be distributed?
Well, as this has not happened yet, I envisage phoning an order through to a local McDonalds, collecting the Big Macs from them and then taking the Big Macs to an area, identified by a local school principal (or similar) where the greatest needs are. (I have my own transport, albeit not a Porche.)
Does McDonalds know about this?
I have contacted them via their websites (USA and South Africa) and I am now awaiting a reply from them.
What EXACTLY will the kids be getting?
Why McDonalds?
All kids love McDonalds, don't they?
Also, more than simply feeding hungry kids, the idea is to give them something that will bring a bit of joy and excitement into their lives.
You know, I read on a local news site recently that the BBC claims that girls born in South Africa have a greater chance of being raped than learning to read.
I just want to do something nice! Don't you?
One Big Mac does not a summer make!
I know. But, every little bit helps.
This site only went "live" on 31 August 2002, why did I see it on the Internet before then?
To get as much exposure as possible, I uploaded the site on 11 August 2002 and submitted the url to the search engines so that the submission process could start. Some search engines take 4 to 6 weeks before a submitted site will show up on a search.
Are you crazy?
No, not officially.
I have more questions. How do I get them answered?
If you have any further questions that have not been answered on this page, please send me an email and I will reply promptly.
